The Challenge.

My client for this project contacted me for an update on their website. They were a non-profit that had designed an app to help other non-profits and clubs create local fundraisers on their platform. They had launched about a year prior and had initially set up the website. This version worked when they were traveling around and selling the app to clubs around the nation where they could point people to signup. However, the results had started to fall off, and the stakeholders were looking to refresh the site and help bring more potential partners to set up trails on the app.

The Goals.

  • Increase use rate of the "create a trail" form and contact.
  • Bring a focus to the product and lets the user know what is being provided right away.
  • Allow the user to pull up the website anywhere so that pitch can be delivered anywhere.

Reviewing the Existing.

Existing Donortrail website landing page

While the existing website was in a decent place, my first step was to talk to the stakeholders and understand their goals. After talking to them, it was clear that there were two primary users that the site would focus on; People who are looking to use and download DonorTrail to use and those who would be looking to set up a "trail" on the platform. The main focus is on the latter.

With that in mind I reviewed the existing website and set up a plan for the for how to focus on the main goals of the website. Some of the main focus were:

Cleanup unnecessary information

The landing isn't immediately clear what the product is and what they are selling. The first thing I wanted to do was to focus on showing the product right off the bat.

Steamline the form

The site had an existing form that would trigger the team to send more information. It was a lot of details to fill out with little return. I argued to make the form simple email signup to get more interesting parts to make that initial step.

Responsive fixes

The final issue was the lack of responsive functionality. The smaller screens were unusable, and since the stakeholders were out and about selling the app, many users would first open the website on mobile.

Solution.

Through my process, I delivered two initial wireframes for the team that focused on simplifying the website to show only the essential items. The goal, here again, was to get new "partners" to fill in their emails. After two quick iterations, we had a final product that was turned over to their team.
